Home Bitter-Sweet Home

About 2 1/2 years ago I made THIS post. In 2010 we put our house on the market in search of a little more room for our family. Six months and almost 40 showings later our little house still belonged to us. We had even begun the process of building a new house just a few miles away. It was stressful and disappointing. We knew we were wanting to add another little McGrew to our crew so we took it off the market to focus on a different goal. Now that there are 5 of  us we feel that we are almost busting at the seams...and the thought of adding a 4th child makes it feel even smaller! I LOVE this house, and just like I stated in my post 2.5 years ago, if it was just a little bigger I could stay forever! Aaron built this house in 2003. We started our lives here together in 2005. We've come home to this house with 3 newborn baby boys and celebrated numerous birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas's here. It holds MANY McGrew Crew memories!

We put the house back on the market in mid-January. Two days later we had an offer and it was sold. A week after that we found ourselves a new house. Quite a different story than 2010, which just reaffirms that God knew what the plan was all along, even though it stressed us out a good bit! Being as picky as I am I've learned that there will never be THE perfect house. But, we found a house that will fit our growing family and its needs quite well. And the fact that we will create many new memories in this new house makes it as close to perfect as you can come! Ironically, this new house is right down the street from the one we started building last time. However, I feel that the layout of this house is a much better fit for us! Pray with us and for us as we make this transition soon. Change is not easy for me...I know it will be hard to leave this place. But I know that God has great things for our family's future, and thankfully it includes a little more breathing room! :)

Papercuts

We have officially been thrown into the whirlwind of adoption paperwork! We had been warned this was coming but now we are living it. We know that in the end it will all be worth it, but it's definitely taking its toll for now! This not only includes actually filling out tedious papers, but also collecting many documents (doctor's notes, birth certificates and financial statements (just to name a small few). We are starting our homestudy which is responsible for much of this paperwork, and will also include several meetings with our social worker. Soon we will begin our dossier. This is just a large compilation of papers that clarifies our ability to adopt an international child. They want to thoroughly and completely make sure you are qualified to handle this big responsibility. While I completely understand all that is required in order to adopt, I can't help but wonder how I was able to have 3 children already without a single question being asked of me! :)
There are many people who have asked us about the time-line of our adoption process. While there's no way to know exactly how long it will be until we are able to travel to China and bring our daughter home, we do know that the process can take a while. Our totally random and un-official guess is somewhere between 2 and 3 years. We started this process when we did because we knew it would take AT LEAST this amount of time and we wanted Micah to be older and a little more independent by the time our little girl comes home. Micah is still very much a baby (and quite needy) and we are not ready for the responsibility of another child just yet. But, by starting this journey when we did, our hope is that it will still allow all our children to be fairly close in age as we would like all FOUR of them to grow up together and be great (if not BEST) friends!!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart... Colossians 3:23

As for me and my house, we will work for the Lord. Joshua 24:15

We were married in 2005 and have been best friends ever since. Now we're raising three little boys and are loving every minute of it. We are constantly learning about the character of God through marriage, parenting and daily life!
