In The Last 24 Hours

In the last 24 hours....

*I've gotten about 5 hours of intermittent sleep.

*My patience has been tested more than I would like to admit.

*I've slept part of the night with the hair dryer running b/c it's usually one of the things that keeps Reid calm and asleep.

*I've gone to the bathroom while holding my infant son because if I had put him down he probably would've screamed and I wanted to avoid that at ALL costs.

*I've gone to call someone on my cell phone, only to find myself pushing the letters L, A, N for Landon because that's who was on my mind and just how out of it I am!

*I've cried more than I would have liked to.

I can't wait to see what the next 24 hours will bring!

The silver lining? The Thompsons will be here in just a few short hours!!

Let Sleeping Babies Lie

Around our house, the motto is Where Reid is quiet and calm, Reid stays! So, yesterday afternoon while napping on the couch, he managed to scoot himself off of his Boppy (where he was nicely propped up) and got somewhat wedged into the couch cushions. Of course, I would have moved him had it become too dangerous, but since he seemed so peaceful I just let him sleep! Isn't he sweet? By the way...This little boy slept 8 hours last night! Woo hoo!

Three's Company

Last night was the first time since Reid was born that I've had both boys all to myself for an extended period of time. I'd been dreading this day for a while now especially since Reid has still been pretty colicky lately. Aaron headed off to work at 3:30 p.m. and the fun began! We started off in the playroom where Landon fell and either bit his lip or tongue. It was hard to tell what actually got injured, I just know there was a lot of blood! But, it was nothing that some hugs, kisses and an orange popsicle couldn't fix! For the most part, the evening was decent. From 9:00-10:30 Reid had his only colic spell of the day. There were many tears shed...and not just from Reid. One of the hardest things I've had to do in my life is listen to my babies cry and know there is little I can do to calm them down. The silver lining to the evening was once Reid went to sleep around 11:00, he slept until 6:15! He officially slept through the night for the first time! Here is my attempt at taking some pictures of the three of us. As expected, they aren't the best....but they capture real life happening at the McGrew home!
Are they brothers or what?

Mommy Boo-Boos

My mom has told me a story about the time I caused her some of the worst pain in her life...and I mean other than childbirth! I was about 2 years old and I was sitting in her lap as we read a book together. I guess I got the book a little too close to her face and turned the page quickly causing it to papercut her eye. OUCH! I suppose mommy injuries are all a part of the job! A few months ago I wrote a post called Baby Botox where Landon fell and busted his lip. Well, today it was Mommy's turn! I had just come in the house from running a quick errand and I squated down for Landon to run and give me a hug. I guess I didn't move my head to the side fast enough because he ran his head right into my mouth. I assumed it had probably hurt his head since my lip was stinging so badly. I quickly looked at him thinking he was going to cry any second...but he didn't make a peep! FYI~This was a no-makeup day...much like many of my days are now! :)

Howdy Ya'll

Doesn't he make the cutest little cowboy?
Good job on the party favor Watson family. Landon still enjoys playing with this quite often!

Quiet, Please!

Since Landon LOVES books so much (and we were looking for something to do this morning) Aaron suggested we go to the library! I thought this was a great idea and only assumed Landon would go crazy at the abundance of books that would surround him. I had the first part right…Landon went crazy! Most of our short time there was spent running after him. We have some work to do regarding Library etiquette. He ran around and pulled books off the shelf but didn’t give them much attention after that. I kept thinking of the poor library employees who have to re-shelve all those books. After a few attempts to get Landon to read, or even to sit in our laps and let us read to him (which he LOVES at home) we decided to check a few books out and head home. Actually, I knew it was time to leave when I saw this tired-looking mom chase her child out the front door of the library carrying un-checked out books and set the alarm off. I was embarrased for her and everyone stared! Poor thing! Oh wait…that was me! :)
I thought this was such a cute picture (above). I wish I could say this is what happened a lot of the time we were there. But unfortunately, this literally lasted about 3 seconds before the book was chunked on the floor and Landon was gone again (see below). Notice the book has not completely made it to the floor and he's already half-way off the chair!
On the move....constantly!

P.S. Happy Birthday Uncle Jeffie!!

One Month

Really? Has it already been one month since Reid was born? Our not-so-little boy is already close to 9 lbs now. His orignal due date (had he made it to 40 weeks) was this coming Tuesday, August 11th. Reid is still exhibiting some colicky symptoms, but we've had some better nights amidst the long ones. He is sleeping anywhere from 4-6 hours at night. He is starting to focus on things around him a little more when he is awake, however, he is still sleeping a good part of the day. We've had a few family outings so far and each time I feel like we're packing up to be out of town several days! I'm ready to find our routine and feel a little more normal again. I know this will still take some time.
Our first born will be 2 next month, but I think he's already celebrated because he is certainly acting like a 2 year old these days. Landon's vocabulary is slowing expanding. Some of his words and phrases include:
MaMa
DaDa
Baby (Reid)
Bye-Bye
Hi
Bob Bob (Spongebob)
Gullycot (Mario-Kart OR helicopter)
ah ah (Hot)
Num Num (yummy)
La-La-La-La (I love you)

In 3 weeks, the Thompsons will be here! Words can't express how exciting this is for our whole family! We've been waiting over a year for this time to come and it's finally close enough to start getting excited about! :)

It Won't Be Like This For Long

As Aaron pointed to Reid earlier this morning, he looked at me and asked, "Can't we push fast-forward a bit?" He says this because the past few days our littlest sweetheart has been a little colicky and we have found ourselves quite frustrated at times. But soon after he asked this, I thought of the lyrics to the song It Won't Be Like This For Long, by Darius Rucker.

As hard as many days from the past few weeks have been, I know these words are true. In the blink of an eye, our baby boys won't be babies anymore. They'll be boys! Big boys! Teenage boys! Yikes!

I'm still struggling with many of the things I talked about in an earlier post titled The Truth? I truly appreciate the encouraging words left by some of you. I've read them all more than once because they provide me with these few reminders:

A) God is in control...Not me!
B) I'm not the only one who has ever struggled as a mother.
C) It's OK if my days don't go as I planned...and they probably won't (See A).
D) This too shall pass!

I can't believe he'll be 2 next month!!
